Lancome Thinks Anne Hathaway is Magnifique

Since she was appointed the new ambassador of Lancome earlier this year – Anne Hathaway had certainly upped the ante on her fashion and beauty choices. Once famed for her slightly gawky, teenage wide-eyed look she has recently metamorphosised into a super-stylish starlet.

Anne is starring in a glamorous commercial for the brand's new fragrance, Magnifique, which is out in September. She looks classically stunning, with pale skin and dark eyes, framed with loose curls (this was filmed before she cut her hair).

The doe-eyed beauty seems like a natural choice for the luxe brand, which has a fresher, more feminine appeal than some of it's competitors in the luxury beauty industry.

Odile Roujol, President of Lancôme International, has stated that “Anne Hathaway is a radiant young woman who perfectly embodies modern femininity. We know she will portray all the passion and excitement of our new fragrance.”

Trend Alert: Bright Lights, Bold Colour

This is the sumer of bright, bold colours and look-at-me makeup. Think peacock blue, cream eyeshadow, with cerise cheeks and raspberry lips.

At the Haute Couture shows, makeup artists were like magpies for the bright stuff – there were red berry lips at Valentino, lime and yellow eyeshadow at Dior and painted-ladies with purple eyes and bright red lips at Christian Lacroix. A sign that sizzling shades are here to stay.

Here's my top five bright products to get you started – just don't wear them all at once!

Mavala, (£3.75), nail polish in Romantic. A bold, coral pink that looks good on toes.
Maybelline Dream Mousse Eye Shadow, (£5.99), in Fabulous Turquoise. This is one of the best cream shadows around. Very long-lasting too.

Lancome Juicy Tube,(£9.50), in Fraise. A sticky, sweet lip gloss with an orangey-peach colour. Young and fun.
Revlon Renewist Lip Colour, in Cherry Desirable. A special moisture-boosting formula and SPF 15 make this a great colour buy.
MAC nail polish in Phosphor, (£8), a bumble bee yellow with a slight lime sparkle. Slightly putrid, very Dior Haute Couture.

How-To: Daria Zhukova's Perfect Pout

Daria Zhukova – Russian former model and girlfriend of Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich – was looking typically stunning at a private dinner hosted by Stella McCartney, at Harvey Nichols, yesterday.

Daria, also known as Dasha, runs her own fashion line – Kova & T – with old schoolfriend from Christina Tang, and has graced the pages of Vogue, not least because of her relationship with Abramovich. I'm sure it has something to do with her absolute gorgeousness too... Note her dewy skin, shiny hair and perfect pout.

Dasha has opted for a subtle, glossy lip colour to naturally enhance her lip shape. Here's how:

Dasha has naturally full lips, but if you're not as blessed, you can fake it. I heartily recommend Lancôme Primordiale Levres Skin Recharge, (£25). Over time lips look plumper and the texture also improves.

Clinique Colour Surge Butter Shine,

Add a touch of balm, as glossy lips look fuller. Try FCUK Pure Lip Gloss, (£4.50).
For the illusion of larger lips, apply YSL's Touche Eclat, (£22.50), around the edges of your lips. Concentrate on the sides of the mouth and add a touch above the lip, directly above the cupid's bow.

Lancôme's New Vision of Beauty

The new Lancôme woman is all about being irreverent, free-spirited, audacious and spontaneous. "She's the kind of woman that can wear a Prada dress with flip-flops or Christian Louboutin shoes with a T-shirt." Lancôme's new makeup maestro, Aaron de Mey told Womens Wear Daily. "And she's French — because Lancôme is French." Well indeed, but she sounds kinda English to us.

Either way, we can expect a new collection of extremes, starting with black versus red. A limited edition red lipstick and black lip gloss will be launched in the U.S in the second half of this year, with plans to be available in the UK later in the year. We can also look forward to de Mey's first colour cosmetics for Lancôme next Spring.

The collection is influenced by classic beauty icons, such as Marlene Dietrich, who de Mey tells WWD, directly influenced the black gloss. "I really loved Marlene Dietrich for the fact that she would use [on her eyelids] the carbon from a burnt cork and mix it with Vaseline." The gloss is designed to be used, not just on the lips, but on the eyelids too. "It's a new way of wearing black," he explained. "It's sexier, more mysterious and gentle at the same time. It's not hard."

Product Review: Lancôme Plumping Lip Treatment

Despite hankering after a perfect pout like the lust-worthy Angelina Jolie - memories of Leslie Ash's trout pout still prevail. So if going under the knife for fuller lips seems like a ridiculously harrowing prospect, or at least an extravagance you can afford to live without, like me, you'll be looking to products before you pucker up.

Having said that, I'm always highly cynical about products that claim to alter the actual shape of your features. So when I smeared on Lancôme Primordiale Levres plumping lip treatment I jokingly said to a colleague, "Wow, so has it made a difference?" to which she replied, "Yes, actually". I couldn't really see it myself but after two weeks of using it sporadically in the day, and every night before bed, my lips did actually look plumper. Not quite Scarlett Johansson-esque but definitely fuller. The texture has improved too, they're softer, smoother and the colour looks more even. I'm sold.

Instead of being a gloss, the product has a cream-like texture, and you only need to use a tiny bit. Make sure you gently rub it in as well otherwise it looks like you've been lapping too much milk. It's quite addictive though, as I type this I keep having to stop to apply more. As Donatella Versace says "More is more". Mwah!

Fab Ad: Clive Owen for Lancome

Firstly, to me Clive Owen seems like a slightly odd choice for the Lancome ad campaign as I don't really believe he uses skin care. However, maybe that's the point, that Lancome is for real men? Secondly, how different does he look in the second ad (right) for anti-aging skincare compared to the first for hypnose? He is almost unrecognisable in the anti-aging advert. What do you think?
