I know that most of you are divided about which method of hair removal you prefer. Near-fluro orange pouts and tomato toned lips stole the shows at London and New York Fashion Weeks. This is actually a very flattering colour to wear but I have to admit I was a little dubious at first about putting ketchup-esque shades on my skin. For some professional advice on how to work this trend, follow my easy tricks.

For the perfect base for lipstick simply smooth out any blips or dry skin by using an old toothbrush. Then apply lipstick with a brush for extra precision. This evens out the lips and gives the colour staying power.
If you want to make less of a statement then pat the colour on with your fingertips. This gives an undone finish that was seen on the catwalk at Betty Jackson for next Spring.

This Spring/Summer the catwalks were awash with ultra modern makeup looks, from theatrical glitter, to bursts of bright colour. The trend we all actually want to wear though, is going by the name of Rustic Romance. Think fierce, bold brows, rust eye shadow shades and gently blushed cheeks.

Rustic Romance was the main makeup story at the Milan shows, where grown up glamour is always on the agenda. This season, however, there's a definite, Southern Italian influence, with strong, womanly looks being all the rage.

I loved the rust mixed with berry lipsticks at Dolce & Gabbana, (pictured), the subtle gold shadow at Daks by Giles Deacon and the soft, pink blush at Prada and Blumarine.

Hair How-To: Jean Paul Gaultier Pirate Plaits

Take inspiration from the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/Summer show, where small sections of hair were tightly plaited for a modern-day, pirate look.

This is a great look for the beach, when hair is likely to already have more texture than usual.

Think deluxe hippy, and combine the plaited sections, with matte – yet healthy looking – hair.

Here's How:

Keep the plaits uneven - to avoid looking too twee. This isn't Little House on the Prairie, you know!
If you want to keep it simple, just one tight plait, on one side of the face, looks chic and sweet.
First, make sure your parting is uneven. Then, randomly pin bits of hair, using grips, to keep the effect sexily dishevelled.
Next, take small sections of hair, and plait tightly. Either leave the ends loose if you already have lots of texture in your hair, or fasten with a small bobble.
For ship wreck chic, fasten the plaits with string that's the same colour of your hair. Or use thin strands of leather.
Keep the rest of the hair mussed-up, by spritzing hair with a texturising spray when it's still damp. I really like Shu Uemura Art Of Hair Texturiser.

I am such a sucker for Maggie Gyllenhaal's pretty, yet unconventional beauty looks. She always appears kooky and cool – even when her makeup is red-carpet polished. Most of all, she looks like she's having fun.

At the New York Premiere of The Dark Knight, – Maggie looked glowing, with dewy skin and show-stopping red lips.

Here's some easy tips for getting her makeup look:

Use a light, sheer foundation, such as Clinique Gentle Light Makeup, (£18.50), for a luminous effect. Set with some loose, translucent powder.
Add a touch of natural-looking blusher, in a warm shade, like NYC, in peach, (£2.99), from Superdrug.
This look is all about the lips, so keep eyes neutral. A light, toffee-coloured eyeshadow, such as Bourjois in Brun Irreel, (£5.75), and black mascara is all you need.
Choose a lipstick that's a true red, with no brown or orange in it. If you're pale, a blue-red colour will work best. I like Nars, in Scarlet Empress, (£17).

For unstructured, wavy hair, you don't have to bother with a myriad of curling products and heat appliances. This is a trick lots of models use when they want to give their hair a break from over-styling and just go natural.

I was always one of the wear-long-hair-down brigade, and hated seeing girls with scrappy ponytails or messy buns. What was the point of having long hair, I reasoned, if you were always going to wear it up?

Well, that is a classic case of hair today, gone tomorrow.

This season, I'm really liking the bevy of celebrity beauties who've been sporting pretty and quirky up dos. Geri Halliwell is one of them, I love her retro, slightly kooky, 60s 'do.

Here's an easy how to:

Scrape hair back into a high ponytail, using a wide-tooth comb. Fasten with a bobble that's the same shade as your hair.
Next, twist hair around in a loose bun. Use the right index finger to act as the 'pivot', so hold the bobble and twist the hair around that finger, using your left hand. Pretend you're winding wool around a spindle!
Tuck the very ends under the twist, and pin using hair grips.
If you have very long or thick hair, add more hair grips to secure the 'do. Then spritz with a firm hold hairspray, such as Andrew Collinge Long Lasting Hairspray, (£3.99).
This style looks chic with a Grecian-inspired dress or bold gold jewellery. Its also great for adding height if you're petite.

At the Dior Spring/Summer Haute Couture show, John Galliano sent out a bevy of brightly dressed, models-as-society-beauties; all with eyes that were loaded with glitter.

Glitter on the eyes is nothing new, but what is different this season is a cabaret meets BoomBox-esque twist, where the glitter is piled on with abandon and spreads out from the eyes, down the cheeks, for a modern take on this starlet classic.

How To Get Ladylike Lipstick

As the mood for thoroughly, grown-up glamour continues, the trend for classic, made-up lips shows no signs of abating any time soon.

Choosing your colours is one thing, but this dramatic look is all in the application. First prepare your lips with balm, such as Apples & Pears, (£10.50). This will help ensure an even application.

Then follow these simple tips:

Always apply lipstick with a brush for maximum staying power, and a neater application. Use a lip brush, for a definite line, or try a small, flat eyeshadow brush if you want to keep the edges softer and more modern.
The idea of lining lips with a pencil seems old-fashioned, but if you want your colour to last then it's important to use a pencil first. This works best for evenings or events where you want to make an entrance. Use short strokes to colour the lip all over, starting from the cupid's bow.
Next apply the lipstick using a brush, in smooth, even strokes. If you feel like you've applied too much, simply blot with a tissue.
For the daytime, when overly defined lips can look scarily overdone, just pat the lipstick colour onto your lips, over balm, just using your fingertips.
Try and keep the rest of your makeup classic and ensure the skin is matte, as this makes your lips look extra bold.

How-To: Jamelia's Gorgeously Glossy Skin

Jamelia looked gorgeous and glowing at last night's Formula 1 party. My girl Pop UK has all the gossip and pictures.

Of course her flawless complexion could just be down to newly wedded bliss, with her new footballer husband, but what really caught my attention was her perfectly toned limbs, that looked almost luminescent, and super shiny shoulders.

Here's how to mimic her glow:

Black skin can often be very dry and needs regular exfoliating to make it shine. Try Boots No 7 Body Polish, (£9.25), every other day, or every day if your skin needs it.
Use a very rich body cream, such as Elemis Vitamin Rich Body Lotion, (£21) every morning and night. I know that seems like a lot, but the tone and texture of your skin will really improve, after just a week of this routine.
For everyday, a body lotion with a hint of iridescence will really make dark skin gleam. I like Palmers Cocoa Body Gloss, (£3.14).
For special occasions, highlight shoulders and toned arms by dotting just a tiny bit of MAC strobe cream, (£19.50), onto your skin, and rubbing it in well.
To add curves to skinny arms and legs, focus the shimmer on the backs of calves, front of thighs and the cleavage. To slim down limbs, simply add shimmer to the bones – so fronts of the calves, straight down the arms and across the collar bone.

How-To: Pretty in Pink Like Lucy Liu

Lucy Liu is one of those rare actresses who manages to make a trend all her own. Here she's wearing this season's butter-wouldn't-melt, innocent pink colours, and still manages to look sophisticated.

Lucy's twisted, high pony definitely suits her face shape, but what you really notice is her luminescent skin and gorgeous, well-balanced features. I love how she's just used a touch of pink blush – it's always a temptation to pile it on when you're pale.

For her super-long lashes, try Diorshow mascara, (£17.50). To mimic Lucy's barely-there blush, I'd go with just a sweep of Nars, in Desire, (£18.50).

To take it up a notch, focus on the lip colour. Pink and shiny can easily look overly Malibu Barbie, but typically, Lucy's chosen the right shade for her skin tone. The texture works too – glossy, with just a touch of iridescence. Here's my three favourite, steal-her-lip-look buys:

Maybelline Watershine Elixir in Vibrant Violet, (£6.99). Strictly speaking this is more gloss than lipstick, but it provides an intense colour with just the right amount of shine. It has an easy-to-apply twist applicator too. This shade looks scary in the tube, but apply ten minutes or so before you go out. By the time you're on the red carpet (or, erm, pavement) it'll be flattering, yet still vivid.
Boots 17 Shine On Lipstick, (£3.99).For a vibrant, shiny pink finish, try Watermelon Crush. It moisturises lips which (supposedly) makes them look fuller. Lasts surprisingly well too for such a bargain buy.
Estée Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre, (£15). This has a creamy, lustrous finish with no shimmer, for a more grown-up effect. It's long-lasting too, with a natural-looking shine. Try Venetian Rose or, if your skin's darker than Lucy's, Lush Rose.

Hair How-To: Cheryl Cole's Plaits with Pony

I'm pleased to note that Cheryl Cole seems to have toned down the fake tan, and gone easy on the Barbie-girl hair. Oh and happy birthday for today, Cheryl, too!

She looks bang on-trend here with a multiple strand hair band, mini plaits and a messy, looped pony. I prefer her hair darker too. A few years ago I was lucky enough to style Cheryl for a photo shoot and she was not only very sweet, but also a lot less high maintenance, beauty-wise, than you'd think. So follow her lead with my easy peasy hair how-to guide:

STEP 1: Prep the hair before blow drying with a volumising mousse, such as Frederic Fekkai More All-Day Density Styling Whip, (£19).
STEP 2: Now's the time to do the mini plaits. Take a few strands of hair near the crown and plait into tight, neat sections. You don't need to fasten these with a bobble as if you've used enough product (or you're not working on freshly washed hair) they should hold themselves.
STEP 3: Add the hair band. Wear it close to the face like Cheryl. This will keep the plaits in place and give you room to create some volume with the pony.
STEP 4: This is a baggy, messy pony so don't worry about making it too perfect. Just scrape hair back with your fingers and knot with a hair bobble.
STEP 5: To create the loop, pull some hair strands all the way through as you would with a pony, but leave most of them tucked into the bobble.
STEP 6 : Add some texturiser, such as the new Shu Uemura's Art Of Hair Texurizer and fluff up the hair with your fingers.

Beauty Masterclass: Super Natural Trend

So it may be the middle of summer, but smart beauty junkies are already practicising a natural, yet polished, look that's straight off the 2008 Autumn/Winter catwalks. Dubbed the 'super natural' look by makeup artists, Calvin Klein, Valentino and Stella McCartney all showcased glowing skin, with a natural-looking flush and minimum fuss.

It's all about enhancing your natural beauty, and not wearing makeup as a mask. Think clean, clear skin and illuminated features, such as sheer, nude lips, lightly mascara'd eyes and subtle creamy blush. Here's how to do it:

FACE Make sure you look after your skin with a regular routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising, so you'll need a minimal base. Next use an illuminating mineral primer, such as Becca's, (£33). Then add a light but even layer of foundation. Try Max Factor Miracle Touch Foundation, (£11.95). Then dust with a layer of translucent powder.
EYES Copy the Prada show where eyes were left almost bare. Just coat lashes once with brown or black mascara. If you want to add more glow, a few dots of Benefit's HighBeam, (£15.50) just below the brows will open up the eyes.

CHEEKS At the Valentino shows, models had a healthy flush. Use a berry-coloured cream blusher like Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge, (£16).
LIPS This look is all about a youthful insouciance. So keep lips nude with just a touch of sheer gloss. I like Max Factor Lipfinity, (£8.99), in shimmering pink and gleaming coral. The double-ended gloss colours can be layered for an ultra pretty effect.

Hair How-To: Sienna Miller

Ever noticed how all our national style icons have messy hair? Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung all have artfully scruffy barnets. Not-too-perfect hair stops you looking overdone when your makeup is polished and you're wearing this season's Lanvin-esque, bright silk dress. Just to go down the pub in. Or maybe that's just me...

Keep your hair looking undone, and more than a little unkempt, with these quick tips:

Rough blow dry hair after washing. You don't need a brush, just use the dryer with your fingers. Tip your head upside down if you need more volume.
When hair is about 90% dry, ruffle it up with your hands whilst blasting from different directions with the dryer for a more natural, messy look.
Add texturiser to the ends, such as Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray, (£16), to make the hair less fluffy
Sienna and Kate generally look like they don't brush their hair too often. It's an obvious point but go easy on the brushing and let your hair get a windswept look – (not too tricky in this weather!) Wearing sunglasses on the top of your head, or a pin to the side like Sienna, also ruffles up the hair. This creates temporary layers around the face and looks suitably dishevelled.

Festival Chic Part 2 – Glamour Girl's Glastonbury

Just one more day to go until Glastonbury. So if you've got your studded, Burberry wellies at the ready, and put together your basic beauty essentials – now's the time to add a little glitz. How else are you going to catch the eyes of all those boys in bands?
